Every June sees Eastbourne’s Devonshire Park Lawn Tennis Club opens its doors to the Rothesay International WTA tournament and showcases some of the world’s finest tennis talent as players from the ATP tour prepare for Wimbledon. Often referred to as the best grass courts in the world, Devonshire Park is favoured by many world class tennis champions.
Annual visit to this competition in the run up to Wimbledon has become something of a tradition for tennis fans. Devonshire Park offers a unique opportunity to view quality tennis at close hand from the ‘biggest’ names on the circuit. World class international tennis takes place with coverage beamed across the world on TV.
Not only is Devonshire Park Lawn Tennis Club host of the annual ATP and WTA tour tournament, it was among the first tennis clubs to make the transition to renewable energy. Since installing solar panels, the venue has l significantly reduced carbon emissions and energy bills.
With a bespoke design and built by us, the project included 46 high-efficiency photovoltaic solar panels. The installation was part of the club’s £44 million project to upgrade the site, which included a new show court and practice courts.
“Devonshire Park is an eco leader not just for its famous green grass tennis courts but its commitment to renewable energy too,” explained Jason Lindfield, founder of OHM Energy. Originally intended to be a cricket club when built more than 100 years ago, Devonshire Park has hosted the tennis WTA Tour and ATP Tour since 1974. Now widely regarded as the “warm-up to Wimbledon”, the Eastbourne championship can now also boast pioneering sustainability credentials,
